Witch Doctor Costume - Scare Away the Evil Spirits

If you are tired of the same old costumes year after year and want to really go all out to do something different this year consider a witch doctor costume. Here is your chance to use your imagination as everybody knows that a witch doctor is one of the wildest looking characters in any tribe. Although the witch doctor may have been one of the most important people in many tribes he was usually the easiest one to spot as his blend of magic and superstition led him wear some very strange and unique clothing and jewelry.

Start Off with the Basics

Since most people tend to associate witch doctors with tribes either on the Caribbean Islands or darkest Africa your witch doctor Halloween costume should be based on this premise. Typically you will need a long grass skirt or perhaps something that looks a little more like a toga made from animal skins. The choice is more or less completely up to you as both will work just fine. If you must wear some form of shoes, take a pair of old shoes and cover them with fake animal skins, remember voodoo and with doctors are all about sacrifice to help their patients.

You will need a wig that gives you long and very unkempt shaggy hair, the idea is to be just as freaky and scary as possible. A fun and friendly witch doctor just would not have the same effect; they are supposed to be frightening to help scare off the evil spirits. If you want to go all out pick up one of the different witch doctor masks that come complete with a scary face covered in tattoos and the long ragged hair ready to go.

Complete the Look

Now that you have the basic wild and crazy look down, you are going to need to accessorize your witch doctor costume. No true witch doctor would ever be seen without a bone through his nose and hanging from his ears, there are plenty of these available in clip on form so that you do not have to pierce you nose. Add some bone bracelets around your ankles and wrists, perhaps a breastplate of fake bones and you are almost ready to go. The last thing you need is at least one shrunken head on a long walking stick or you can use a short stick to shake at the spirits, the choice is up to you. Now you are ready to go out and save your tribe while you scare away the evil Halloween spirits.
